SportsBlogging explains how football actually works — the rules, the money, the calendar, the broadcasting. If you know a corner of that properly, we would like to read what you have.
We should be straight about the arrangement, because most pages like this are not. You write something worth publishing; we publish it under your name with a bio at the end, and that bio carries a link to your site. That is the whole exchange, and it is the same one magazines have run for a century. There is no money in either direction.
What we publish
Anything in these areas, if it explains rather than opines:
- football
- sport
- broadcasting and media rights
- sports business and finance
- supporter culture
The test we apply is simple and it is the only one that matters: would somebody who searched for this be glad they found it? A piece that answers a real question completely will be published even if it is written plainly. A piece that circles a keyword for nine hundred words will not, however polished it is.
What we will not publish
Anything written to carry a link rather than to be read. You will know whether that is what you have sent us, and so will we.
Specifically, and to save everybody time:
- Articles under 700 words, or padded to clear it
- Anything already published elsewhere, including on your own site
- Anything generated and sent without being read by a person
- Links in the body. Name your sources in the text and we will link them
- More than one link out to you. There is one, and it is in the bio
- Pieces about betting, casinos, crypto, loans or academic writing services
About the link
One link, in your bio, using your site’s name rather than a phrase you are trying to rank for. That is not us being difficult — a bio reading “writes at cheap football shirts online” helps nobody, and it is the single clearest signal that a page was published for the link.
Whether that link is followed depends on where it points. If your site is about football or sport, it will be. If it is in a category we do not vouch for — casino, betting, gambling, poker, slots, crypto and similar — we may still run the article if it is good, but the link goes out unfollowed, and we will tell you that before it publishes rather than after.
We would rather say that here than have you find out from a backlink tool in three weeks.
How it works
- Send the piece through the submission form. It asks for a Google sign-in first, so we know who wrote what.
- An editor reads it. You hear back either way, usually within a week.
- If we are running it, we edit it and send you the edited version. Headlines change, sections get cut, and anything we cannot verify comes out.
- You approve it, we publish, and we send you the link.
We do not publish anything without the writer seeing the edit first. It is your name on it.
